Your EDC gun can prove quite useful in a defensive shooting scenario if you know how to handle it. I’m not talking here about pointing at the target and squeezing the trigger. Everyone can do that, however it is where the bullets end up that counts. The drills you do at the range can be quite different from a real world shooting scenario.

Training for armed defense requires a lot of time and dedication. You also have to be realistic about your expectations. You may never achieve an expert level of training, unless you are part of the military or your job requires for you to spend many hours at the range.

Defensive shooting requires an adequate amount of training to be able and operate under pressure. You need a great deal of discipline and practice to master defensive shooting. Doing drills at the range will help you prepare better for a real world scenario. However, there are a few tips that should work for everyone.

I’ve seen this over the years and I think is better if we point them out. These tips will help people train better and understand the complex subject of defensive shooting:

When training for armed defense, keep in mind the following:

  1. Lower your center of gravity

This is one of the first things I’ve learned when I started training for defensive shooting. I was quite surprised to see the number of people practicing defense drills in an upright position. I believe that fighting while standing up is not ideal. People should avoid doing it because it’s somehow unnatural. We have a natural instinct of lowering our center of gravity when we are in danger. A proper training should rely on our natural tendency to bend forward at the waist and bend our knees
