20 Skills You Can Trade After The End Of The World
Too many preppers have a romantic view of life after the end of the world. They see themselves as the hero of a post-apocalyptic movie, but the most likely scenario is far more depressing. Fernando Aguirre is a prepper who lived through the hyperinflationary collapse of Argentina in 2001. It was bad. People starved, people died from lack of medical care, and people were killed by thugs who knew the police couldn’t stop them.
At one point, unemployment got as high as 50%. But Fernando points out something interesting about that figure: it means 50% of people were still working. So even in the midst of a terrible collapse, it was business as usual. People shopped, people went out to eat, and people struggled to make a living. Want to know what an economic collapse would be like? Imagine going bankrupt and there is no one who will help you, not even a soup kitchen.
If it ever comes to this, having some old fashioned skills could mean the difference between starving and getting by. If you can do things most people can’t do–make soap, fix cars, mend clothes–you’ll do okay during an economic collapse because you’ll be able to trade those skills for the things you need.
