Hunting is an American tradition and its a great way for preppers to harvest their own food! However, there are some very important things to consider when you go hunting.

It is of the utmost importance that we conduct ourselves as responsible hunters and conservationists. This will assure we are in the best position to be successful and teach the next generation.

You are in Danger

When you step out into the woods, particularly on public land, during hunting season, you are in danger. It’s a weird way to look at hunting but it’s very true! When there are guns around and people are hype about bagging a deer, things can go wrong.

You should always assume that you are in danger and take every precaution to avoid that. That is the point behind things like blaze orange and its requirement.

If you are rustling around in the woods people are not going to assume that you are a human unless you have that orange on. If you have that high-quality camo on, well, you won’t be so easy to see. If you have a bow slung on you that might look like a couple of antlers, well, some nut might pull the trigger on you.

You can Put Others in Danger

As important as it is to make yourself known, you also need to make others known, too! You have to be able to discern not just what you are shooting but what is beyond it.

KNOW YOUR SHOT AND WHATS BEYOND IT.

This is one of the fundamental rules when it comes to hunting. While you might see the buck as clear as day, there could be another hunter in the bush just across the field. If you miss your shot or if it passes through the animal you could wound or kill the hunter.

Hunting requires a lot of thought and responsibility.
