For those who first jump into prepping it can be an unnerving situation. It’s hitting harder now more than ever. The idea that the collapse is imminent is coming from the highest offices in the nation. We have people in congress talking about 12 years to live!

For those who first jump into prepping it can be an unnerving situation.

That can really light a fire under people. That said, we need a base. To start this prepping thing off properly we need a base level of preparedness that makes sense and is highly effective. This should be the first steps for any prepping beginner.

There are 6 things that everyone can do to affect preparedness at the base level. These things will not only address short term survival but will also prepare you to build a powerful base of preparedness that can be built upon for long term disaster.

1. Water

You are going to want to establish a par of 2 gallons of water per person per day. This can be had through water storage or catchment or sourcing. Also, have the means to filter and sanitize that water.

2. Food

You are going to want to have 2000 calories per person per day in food storage. This is very important and you should prepare for kids as though they are adults. Extra food is never a bad thing but not enough is a big problem.

3. Backup Power

Have a means to power devices and keep the lights on. If you invest in a gas generator you will even be able to keep the fridge on and that goes a long way in short term disaster.

4. First Aid

In the short term, you should have the means to address injury and illness. Your first aid kit should be just as much about bandage as it is about OTC meds to help with pain, fever and other symptoms.

5. Security

Personal security is a very touchy subject but one that you need an answer for. Know that even in short term disaster bad people look to take advantage.

6. Evacuation

You need to have an answer for evacuation. Even if you have all the preps there could come a time when your only option is to leave for a while. Set aside money and make a plan to do so.
