The Best Foods To Hoard When The Power Is Out
A few years ago, the loss of power didn’t seem so catastrophic to us, but today, it seems that things have changed. Increasing cyber-attacks, natural disaster, and terrorist attacks are causing long-term blackouts. The recent disaster in Puerto Rico is showing us how the lack of power can drastically lower the quality of life for fellow humans or even end it. Regardless how well we have it going right now, we have to realize that the majority of our needs require power. When the flow of electricity stops, our normal existence will end as well.
If you know a thing or two about emergency preparedness
When picking up foods for your blackout survival plan, there are a few particularities you should consider. The food that requires refrigeration should not be on your list unless you have a method of producing your own electricity. You should also think about how foods are packed since most of them are not packed for long-term storage. The exception here being canned foods, MREs, and specific survival food.
Think also about nutrition and opt for the foods which provide the maximum nutritional value for the minimum size. And as the final recommendation, don’t store snacks or junk food as they don’t have a good nutritional value and they will take valuable storing space in your pantry.
