Care and Maintenance of Pressure Canners
As preppers, it can be a challenge to think of all the little details. Rotating everything into your normal food stock as it nears expiration is, in itself, a chore! It can be very easy to overlook the maintenance of pressure canners. If you are like the millions of people who own the kind with rubber seals or gaskets, chances are pretty good you never thought to stock replacement parts.
Preppers who can their own food generally use their canners several times a year. Perhaps they have already gotten some replacement parts from Amazon or their local hardware store. The question is, did you get more? Do you have replacement pressure gauges, too? Have you considered that, even if left unused, they can still ‘go bad?” The devil is in the details, as the saying goes, and this is a big one that can have a real impact on the longevity of being able to preserve food in a SHTF situation.
Thankfully, one prepper and expert canner has addressed this issue and has written a fantastic article about meeting these challenges head on. With tips and tricks on making sure your extras don’t go bad with time, this is one you don’t want to miss!
