Maybe the most unforgiving force on the planet is the cold. While the heat on the face of the earth can dry you out and scorch you there are at least moments of respite when the sun goes down and temperatures drop.
True cold settles into your bones and can kill you very quickly if you are not prepared to deal with it. That is the reality of cold weather and surviving a disaster in the cold. For many, the cold is a terrible burden and they hate to see it on the horizon, following fall.
That said, it seems like there is no better training partner in survival than the brutal cold. Cold has the ability to present serious risk and scarcity in a way that so few other things can. Most run from the cold when it hits. We seek shelter in our homes and only come out when we have to.
Have you thought about working in the cold and learning in the cold this year?
Have you prepared your garden for the winter? You can grow food in the winter and its can one of the only ways to get fresh food in the winter time during a SHTF scenario.
While most people reserve wilderness adventure and outdoor activities for the warmer months, you can learn a lot outside in the cold. Learning your cold tolerance is important and can help you understand what you need to improve for dealing with the cold.
Hiking, hunting, and fishing are all great activities for getting out in the cold. If you have a tent outfitted with a small simple woodstove, you can even sleep out in the cold.
Any of these activities are going to give you a huge advantage over the cold. Learning and working in the cold will undoubtedly make you a better survivor.
