How well do you know your area? There was a time when people traveled very little but as the world expands we are traveling further than ever on a daily basis.
This means that our sphere of understanding has to expand, as well. We have to know the areas through which we travel so we can react effectively in an emergency.
One of the best first steps a beginning prepper can take is to conduct a threat assessment. This helps you understand those immediate threats that you need to prepare for. You can create something similar in terms of resources.
You want to know where the resources are in your immediate area. There are many reasons for this. You might find that you need these resources yourself or you might need. Having access to things like medicines or tools could be very important even in the early days of a collapse.
The other benefit of having a resources map is to know the areas that you should not visit. If you are down the street from a Walmart Super Center or a Lowes you are going to want to avoid that area at all costs during a serious collapse.
You see, the mass of people are going to head towards these stores because they will be desperate. They will be out of food in days and they will be looking for answers. Don’t forget, a well trained prepper with an AR15 can be killed by a nobody with a hand gun. That’s just how it can play itself out. Your best method is to stay out of these areas at all costs.
Be very thorough in your creation of a resource map. Denote the resources that would be worth checking out and those that might cost you your life!
