You can buy flashlights and tents, camping meals and gadgets but nothing defines the dystopian mood like body armor. When you make the decision to buy armor you have to face a few things.
- You could be shot
- You could be killed
- The same thing could happen to people you love
Before you ever consider buying body armor you really need to consider community. If you don’t have numbers on your side in a gunfight, all the body armor in the world won’t protect you long enough. Numbers in survival are critical so don’t try to negate that with body armor and firepower.
You are not The Punisher.
Body Armor for Preppers
You have two types of body armor to really consider
- Level III soft body armor that is made to stop handguns and shotgun slugs
- Hard plates graded to stop rifle rounds of varying calibers
What makes sense for you? Do you plan on taking handgun and rifle rounds? Ideally, we don’t want to take any rounds.
A simple soft body armor panel goes a long way in your EDC bag. If you want body armor to cover your body on a daily basis this is about the most functional method.
If you plan on warfighting in an SHTF scenario you are going to want those hard plates. You have to know that people will be shooting 5.56 and greater rounds in a situation like this. This will be particularly true of those who are assaulting your position.
While body armor could be something you need, be sure you have some other things first. You need to eat and drink over all things. Do not buy up all the guns and ammo before you have real food storage that can make a difference and keep your family alive.
So keep your priorities straight.
