While most people are going to store food at the same temperature that their home thermostat keeps. Unfortunately, the optimal storage temperature for your dried food storage is going to be 55 degrees. No one is living at 55 degrees.

After Opening

Once you open a 5-gallon bucket of wheat you have to make a choice. You are either going to have to reseal that bag or you are going to have to use up that food before it spoils. This is one of the worst parts about food storage. If you dont have power, you will need a battery-powered sealer or some means of sealing with heat. 

Make your Own

The dirtiest secret about food storage is that you should be buying and bucketing your own. It’s very easy and you can customize it any way you like. That is a big deal. 

All you need is Mylar bags, 5-gallon buckets, and oxygen absorbers. If you have these three items you can make your own dried food storage out of all sorts of things like rice, corn, wheat, salt, sugar and whatever else is dry and delicious.
