What types of foods do you carry in your bags and in your kits? There are a tremendous amount of choices out there when it comes to packing food for your survival needs.
Because we have a category now that is called survival food that doesn’t mean these are the only things to pack.
You are looking for calories and flavor that will keep you going for the necessary period of time.
There are a tremendous amount of options out there. Some of my favorites are the millennium bars. They are delicious and they are packed with 400 calories each. There are three types of food that you should consider for your 72 Hour Kit.
Ready to Eat Foods
Like the bars mentioned above and things like jerky, you need foods that are ready to eat at a moment’s notice. Things like pemmican are great examples but so are things like granola. No matter what type you settle on be sure you have foods that can be eaten right now with no preparation at all.
Another great option to have on hand are simple camping meals that only require boiling water and time. There are many companies that make these foil packed meals. These can be prepared pretty quickly and you can even move with them while they steep and rehydrate in the closed bag.
Long Term Food Storage

The recipes often call for only a quarter of the package to be used but you can use these whole packages to feed many people. That is the benefit of having these types of foods in your bag
