Growing a Robust Pantry — There is more to having a well stocked pantry than just buying a bunch of food and putting it on a shelf. A robust pantry has a healthy mix of home canned and store bought foods. A pantry is a revolving thing and though it can take a bit to start, it's easy to maintain it!

The moment the trucks stop running to your city or town so too does the food. How will your current stock of food hold up to nourishing your family over a month? What about 4 months?

We should all be very serious about the fact that our food stores will begin to dwindle. Now is the time to start building a robust pantry. While it might seem like a serious mountain to climb, it’s not as hard as you think.

You can use a few methods to slowly build that pantry of long term food storage. This way you will be prepared to deal with a food crisis that could follow a disaster.

Canning Foods

Canning foods is something you have got to start. It’s so easy and it turns your produce from the garden into something you can lean on in lean times! That’s a big deal.

If you have the jars and the pressure cooker all you need are some solid recipes. Invest in a good book that you can keep on a shelf, just in case

Setting A Little Aside

One of the most popular ways to build that pantry is to work on buying a little extra food every time you are at the market. Each trip to the grocery store, get in the habit of buying 1 can of spaghetti sauce and one pound of pasta.

In a year you will at least 50 extra meals. High carb, high-calorie meals that make a difference!

Buy in Bulk

Another great way to plan for some extra food in the pantry is to buy foods in bulk. This can go a long way. Buyers clubs are a great way to make this happen. At some grocery stores, you will pay around $10 for 10lbs of rice.

At buyers clubs you can get 50lbs for around $20! See the value?
