Kids are a huge bone of contention in today’s society. There was a time when having kids was a mark of success. Our selfish ways have made the literal continuity of our race a debatable concept.
The truth of the matter is they are society. They are the future of this nation, this movement and everything else you see around them. Kids are our biggest responsibility. Unfortunately, even some parents have forgotten this.
There are few things that will level a families survival chances as much as a child who must be waited on hand and foot. Kids will need to be self-sufficient in the face of disaster and you have to teach them how to be. The best way is to give them responsibility today.
Never forget, you are only as strong as your weakest link.
Duties for Kids
When your children are old enough to understand expectations, they should be expected to do things. Cleaning up after themselves and helping others are two huge duties for kids as young as 2 years old!
As they get older children can help clean the home, help with yard work and other needs. Its not as much about the skill of the duty but the understanding of daily work and upkeep.
Survival Skills for Kids
The survival skills you teach your kids will most likely depend on dexterity. Some things require a dexterity that young kids do not have. Striking a Ferro rod effectively can be too hard for even a 7-year-old until they get some practice.
Survival skills, like treating them to wild edibles and navigating, can be great fun if you frame them properly.
Just remember, you are only laying a base. Your job is not to turn your 5-year old into a survivalist. Take the foreign out of the wild and create connections between survival skills and fun.
