The United States had achieved something.
After a face to face meeting with the leader of North Korea, it seemed as though things were going the way they should for the first time.
There were even talks between North and South Korean leaders! What a powerful thing to even consider.
So, why on earth are we dealing with tensions in North Korea, again?
There are a number of reasons this could be happening. What we do know is, at the writing of this article, North Korea has just launched two short-range missiles. The launching of missiles had stopped for some time. What has them launching missiles again?
The most recent launch coincided with a trilateral defense meeting between the US, Japan, and South Korea. It looks like NK is upset because they were not invited to the party. Perhaps that’s even understandable considering we don’t know the conversations had between US officials and NK officials.
Talks Broke Down
The talks between Trump and Kim broke down and he even postponed a planned lunch. This could also have something to do with the rebellious attitude of the North Korean leader. While he is not using the type of violent language we are used to, Kim is back to testing missiles.
What Does the Future Hold
The president believes we can still foster a deal between the US, South Korea, and North Korea. Perhaps that’s the case. At the very least, it would seem that we are further from a North Korean nuke than we have been for a while.
Short range missiles are not a threat to us and that puts the US at a better position to avoid costly conflict with North Korea. It’s not to say things will stay this way but for the first time in a long time, we are not considering a bomb or other military action with North Korea!
