How To Make Apple Cider with a DIY Press
Winter is pretty much here (and has been for some parts of the country!). There is nothing like sipping some hot apple cider on the porch and enjoying a crisp winter morning. 🙂
If you are lucky enough to have apple trees or access to plenty of apples, you understand the struggle of having more fruit than you know what to do with. One option is to make cider, which is perfect for the upcoming holiday season. There is a cider making tutorial on Grow Forage Cook Ferment that shows a simple and quick process for making use of your apples before it’s too late.
If you don’t have access to a cider press (which I assume most of us don’t!), or if you’re looking for a fun project, there is even a link to a build tutorial so you can make one of your own. There’s not much to the press design; the press itself is low tech and is basically a brace for a jack. Making the cider is even easier and there’s very little prep work involved. If you’re interested in making an adult version, there’s also a blog on making hard cider!
