How To Make Hardtack
Hardtack is a thick cracker made from flour, salt, and water. What makes it different from other crackers is that it lasts for several years as long as you keep it dry. Because of that, it used to be very popular among sailors and soldiers, especially during the Civil War.
It tastes a bit like a saltine cracker and is good for some quick energy while you’re on the move. The only downside is that it’s very hard, but you can dip it in coffee to soften it up or crumble it into soup. You can also smash it up and stir it in hot water and brown sugar to make a sweet snack.
