Trash will pile up and no one will come to pick it up. Some people will burn it and others won’t care enough to.
The waste will back up and before long the little critters will start to appear. At first their wont be that many. Once they realize there is an abundance of food there will be more. With them, these pests bring an incredible amount of disease.
The black plague was spread by rats and cats.
In a survival situation, you better have some answers for how you plan to deal with these creatures. There are many ways to deal with pests in our society today but in a world of mess and waste, things could get much more complicated.
Pests need a place to stay. They find those places in holes in our buildings. They gather the trash that we leave behind and build nests with it. If you can eliminate the harborage in an area you will limit the amount of time pests spend in the area.
They will not bed down if there is nowhere to bed down.
One of the biggest motivating factors in pest infestations is food. If pests have access to food they will chew through anything to get to it. You have to be very careful about where and how you store food in your area.
More importantly, you are going to need to deal with trash and waste in your area. If you cannot stop the protect the food than you will not stop the pests.
The final piece of the puzzle is the water. Water is very hard to deal with depending on your location. Inspect downspouts and be sure you fill areas where water pools. If you can eliminate pooling water you will make getting water much harder.
