This has to be one of the coolest DIY projects I have seen in a while. Who doesn’t like FREE energy. After reading this instructable article, I need to do this to my dryer and make use of the solar heater I made a few years ago. The project is relatively simple and after you have done it you will start saving on your electricity bill almost instantly.
Dryers only have one hose fitting, which you can set up to intake air from the attic, for example. On a hot day you can dry your clothes on the “Air” dry setting. This means the dryer is not consuming electricity to make heat.
I would probably not recommend doing this to a brand new 800 – 1200 dollar dryer tho 🙂 Test it on an old dryer you picked up from Craigslist. Then mod your new dryer.
