Its easy to look at those guys who are dressed funny and running every morning and say “Whats with all the running?” Its always easy to watch from afar and assume. As people with a preparedness mindsets, we know that better than anyone.

What you don’t realize about all the running is that there are gems hidden inside. Its not just about covering miles and burning calories. Its not about showing off the new sunglasses. No. Running is a powerful tool.

Running brings you face to face with your limits and your mind. If you run for an hour with no headphones you will start probing some seriously strange places in your head. Places that are kept quiet by all the input you relieve on a daily basis.

We are going to talk about 3 survival benefits that come from running short to long races.

Willpower

One of the most overlooked preparations, when it comes to disaster survival is willpower. Its not an easy one to train either. You cannot buy a willpower training machine. Instead you have to do hard things that make you struggle.

Competition

In survival there will be huge competition. Competition for that last can of food, competition for an area to live, if you have not felt the sting and pressure of competition, you will need that. You can get that from being surrounded by people and running a race. While you might not be victorious, you will be tested and that is going to make all the difference.

Thinking Power

We live in a massive age of inputs. There is incoming data at every second and every turn. It can be brutal on the mind. With so many people thinking for you, you can quickly lose your ability to think well yourself. Running and training for these races is a great time to turn off everything else and just go inside the mind.

While you might not look at it this way, running races will certainly make you a better survivor! Lets not forget about the sheer fitness and endurance.
