Surviving in the Wilderness - A different take on an old idea. You know, its easy to disregard and article based on a often covered topic.

  1. You have decided to spend a weekend in the woods with minimalist gear for training or enjoyment.
  2. You have been hurt during a wilderness adventure and cannot get out of the wood easily
  3. You are lost
  4. You have bugged out to the woods

In each wilderness scenario, you are more prepared for some situations than others. If you are on a camping trip than you likely have a tent or shelter of some kind. If you are bugging out you likely have some food and protection.

A day hike where you get lost in the woods could be much worse. Let’s talk about the basics of wilderness survival and what to consider.

Shelter

While you might be hungry and you might be scared, your first course of action is that you should be preparing a shelter of some kind. If you have one great, if not, you need to figure out how you can protect yourself from wind and weather.

In cold weather, this can kill you in about three hours.

Fire

Fire is such a big deal in survival. You should not only get a fire started but give lots of thought to what your next fire might look like. Make some charcloth to assure your next fire happens without you thinking.

Fire is going to help you keep warm, it will cook food, boil water and keep animals from coming to explore your camp.

Water

Sourcing water is so important in survival because you only get three days without it before you die! 72 hours without water and you are going dry out and your internal organs will shut down.

Having the means to filter and boil water is the best way to go.

If you have these three items in survival you are going to last longer than the average person.
