It’s always surprising to find out how few people are taking advantage of what I call the preppers tax cut. I don’t know the full scope of how it hits nationally but I know many states in the Union participate in tax-free weekends for emergency preparedness.
This is an invaluable option, particularly, if you are in the market for something like a generator. The big-ticket items will equal big savings during these tax-free holidays. Many states are doing tax-free emergency preparedness holidays.
The other piece of this puzzle is to pressure your state officials to do this if they are not currently. It doesn’t have to be only for hurricanes. Every state has its challenges and regional disasters.
Smart Shopping for Preps
Just because we need to be more prepared doesn’t mean we should be subject to spending lots of unnecessary money.
In the early days of prepping you find yourself going broke as you go on that first sprint of buying. It’s so alarming when you realize that you are so unprepared. You might be preparing for an EMP or an economic collapse.
Take your time and make smart purchases, trade, and barter, and maybe even look to find giveaway items that can be refurbished. Not everything can be had this way but you should take advantage of those things that can.
Dont Fear Buy!
The most important lesson when it comes to buying preps is to avoid buying out of fear. It’s really easy to fall into this trap.
You read an article about nuclear war and all of a sudden you think that you need a Geiger counter and a full body radioactive suit. Might you need that? Who knows?!
What’s for sure is that you need plenty of food and water! Get that stuff first.
