One of the core elements of being a prepper is to be able to see the value in every resource. When you look at a tree you are looking at a massive collection of resources for the average survivor. We are talking about things like medicine, food, fuel, and building materials.

Recognizing resources and taking advantage of them goes a long way. In many ways, your eyes work in a different way than most people.

The same can be said about things like 55-gallon plastic barrels. To the average person, these are rain barrels but there are many different projects you can make

Beehive

Have you considered souring your own honey from bees? Having a beehive in your backyard is also a great way to help out with bee populations. Our bees are in big trouble and we don’t really know about it or know how to fix it.

Dog House

How about a quick shelter for Fido? You can spend hundreds of dollars on a dog house from Northern Tool or you can make some simple modifications to a barrel and create a great dog house. Remember, your dog doesn’t care what his house looks like.

Compost Bin

Another important little project is turning your barrels into a tumbling compost bin. Composting is important. You can literally turn your leaves and grass into food for your garden. It’s such a big deal.  You need to have a way to feed your plants each year.

You can burn money up at the hardware store on things like fertilizer or you can make your own nutrient-dense compost.

There are many more ways to use these great barrels. Remember, you need to be a master of conservation and of resources. This will make all the difference in how you can react to things like disaster and times of need.
