Yet again the Northeast faces another winter and again a brutal storm from built from artic air further north. This annual struggle is about as much a regional disaster as anything else. How many of these storms are we going to brace for and not be prepared for?
There are some things we all must consider each year as we watch the winter approach. The storm that just passed was called winter storm Harper. Right on the heels of that storm is another called Indra. We aren’t sure what the future will hold for the Northeast yet but Indra could be a problem.
What are the three things we all could now to prepare for the next snow storm?
Stock up on Snow Supplies
We shouldn’t be running to the store every time there is storm to buy shovels, salt and tarps. We should have these things. If you wanted to invest in a stockpile of say 4 shovels, 4 tarps and 4 bags of salt, you would need less than 100 dollars.
That’s one night out with dinner and drinks. When you need a night out you find that money so you can find it for this annual regional threat.
Get Some Food in the House
It doesn’t have to be a years worth of food but you should have more than 3 days worth in the home. Get some backup that doesn’t require refrigeration and be ready to cook that food with backup heat sources like propane camping stoves.
Invest in Backup Power
If you really want to show winter who is boss invest in a backup power source, like a portable generator. You see, if you can generate your own heat than you can fight back against any winter storm. Of course, you need to keep other things on hand as well, like fuel for that generator.
