The first week, or so, after a serious SHTF situation in the Urban environment water might not be an issue. The tap might even still be working. You could have some water stored and there are going to be other concerns.
Things like your immediate food and medicine needs might be a bigger deal. You might also find yourself much more concerned with security! What are we to do in a world where desperate people are breaking into homes on a regular basis? This could be a picture of urban survival.
Well, before long the tap is going to run dry or the water that comes out of it is going to look like something from a horror movie. What happens then? Where are you going to source your water from in an urban environment after the tap has run dry and your stored water is gone?
Mapping Water Sources
One of the first steps you should take before a SHTF scenario you are going to want to map water sources in your area. You might not even know it but you could be surrounded by water sources. You could have a creek a 1/4 mile from your home!
Lakes and ponds should be noted, as well. Yes you will need a serious water filter above all!
Warehouses and Commercial Buildings
Water pipe runs throughout all large buildings and if you invest in a water key for your urban survival loadout you will be able to access this. You might be surprised to find how much water is left in the pipes of these buildings so be sure you bring large containers.
Toilets?!
While it might sound horrific the water that is contained in the tank is pretty safe. Of course, it wont be 100% safe and boiling it might not be the worst thing. The bowl of the toilet is where all the waste goes and the tank is the section behind and above the bowl. It empties when you flush. You might be able to find water still sitting in some of these tanks. Be sure to check commercial buildings.
Water heaters are a great place to check too!
