Why Build a Gas Mask?

You might not think protection from tear gas is very important, but remember that during an economic collapse or any other type of grid-down scenario, you are likely to see rioting in the streets. And where there are riots, there are police using tear gas.

If you live in an urban area or are trying to get through an urban area when that happens, you’ll need protection.

Some of you might be asking, “Why not just buy a gas mask?” You can, but maybe you don’t have a lot of money to spend.

Or maybe you’re in a scenario where lots of people need gas masks and you don’t have enough for everyone. If that happens, you’ll need to improvise.

Supplies You’ll Need

Now obviously, you’re going to need more than just a 2-liter bottle. You’re also going to need a soda can, thick rubber bands, some cotton rounds, duct tape, medical tape, and activated charcoal.

With the activated charcoal, I’m not talking about the pills, but the actual powder (which can be found in pet stores near the aquariums).

The activated charcoal is the most crucial component as it will filter out the harmful chemicals that burn your eyes, nose, and lungs.

You’ll also need some scissors to cut the bottle and can. I recommend following some DIY gas mask instructions and watching a video demonstration just to make sure you’re doing it right.

This homemade gas mask is surprisingly effective, and it also protects against smoke, chemicals, airborne diseases, and other things that might be in the air during a disaster scenario.

The saying goes, “If you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything,” and that is even truer after the SHTF.
