There is really no way of knowing how to measure it.
To understand preparedness in America you have to understand the motivations and goals. Depending on what you are preparing for, your goals may look very different.
Base Level Preparedness
Call it what you want, this level of preparedness is about taking notice. It’s about understanding that lights go out and power takes time to restore. It’s about addressing basics first aid with things like bandaids and Neosporin
This level of preparedness is nothing outrageous. However, it can be very effective.
Emergency Preparedness and Civil Unrest
When you incorporate backup power systems, security measures like firearms and long term food storage, you are preparing for more. This is the place where many preppers and those who understand the true threats to our society exist.
This level of preparedness takes effort. It takes planning and it also takes some maintenance. You will likely build upon this but it’s a strong base on which to build.
This is the big kahuna! To prepare for long term survival in a societal collapse is the never-ending story. It’s a journey that changes the way you look at the world and prepping on a whole. There is a real joy in it because it will transform you and likely for the better.
Most people assume to be at this level you are little more than a paranoid maniac. However, you are hyper-aware and you begin to learn so many great skills that it really makes for a rewarding life.
