A lot of readers are cocking their heads to the side when they read this title. While it might seem pretty simple an idea, have you actually thought about what you want to use your knife for and, more importantly, what you don’t.

What is a Survival Knife For? - For many preppers and survivalists, you want a knife that you can use like its indestructible. You want to beat it, scrape it and put it through hell!

For many preppers and survivalists, you want a knife that you can use like its indestructible. You want to beat it, scrape it, and put it through hell! This is because we see guys on TV and YouTube doing it so we think it’s the very best method for using a survival knife. Well, you might want to think again.

Rather than look for a knife that can do anything, maybe think about what you can do with other tools to save your knife’s edge and spine. Metal can break and if you lose your knife trying to cut a tree down with it, you’ll be in big trouble.

Splitting Wood

Carry a small axe or hatchet. Just get one and make it part of your pack. It’s well worth the weight. Stop batoning your poor survival knife. Sure it works but why put it through that kind of punishment when you have a tool that splits wood much more efficiently.

Scrapping Ferro

Whether you do it with the spine or with the blade, just add a striker to a few inches of paracord and tie that to your ferro rod. BOOM! You don’t even need to unsheathe your knife to start a fire. Save that blade for another use.

Processing Trees

A folding saw is such an important piece of equipment. I am not even sure how you would look to bring trees down without it but I am sure your poor survival knife would take the brunt of the damage.

A survival knife is much more about what you intend to use it for as opposed to using it for everything. Get smart about your survival knife, today!
