Solar Cooking in Winter
So, you want to see if you can cook in a solar oven in the dead of winter, huh? Same here, so that’s why I went hunting for an in depth article on this subject. The Winter shouldn’t stop us from achieving our self-sufficient lifestyle dream.
I purchased a solar oven a few years ago and I am ashamed to say, I have still not used it. It cost me over $300 and I brought it to try and save money on my gas bill. I saw it looking all sad in its box last Friday and I instantly wanted to go cook in it. Trouble is it had just snowed. So I didn’t think I could use it.
Did you know that you can build a sun oven for cheap? I have a great article on how to make a dollar store solar oven. This is a great start if you do not want to spend 200 – 800 dollars on a ready made one.
Well, I am pleased to report that sun ovens DO work in the winter and work well. They just take a little longer, obviously. There is actually a lot of science behind cooking in the winter, you need to know. Crazy how technical it can be.
