There were even times when these biscuits had little bonus bugs that were also eating away at them. The soldiers would dip the hardtack in coffee to make it somewhat edible.
One of the reasons hardtack is such an alluring little nibble is because it can basically last forever! Its a mix of water and flour that is dried in the oven and made to be a bit tasteless and hard as a rock.
It might even be able double as body armor! Hardtack would be a great food in a survival situation.
