The organization of time in the prepping and survival world is very important. Its hard to integrate these things into the buttoned down modern lifestyle.
Things like swinging in hammocks and storing food in the closet don’t seem to jive with crunching numbers and moving the bar on profits.
That is probably the reason so many people are ushering themselves out into the wild. Its a radical change to see so many people come in from the wild and now, after only a few decades of being cooped up in offices and the home, people are running for the hills! That’s great.
Still, time persists and it works against us. The best way to assure you are going to be able to get outside is to plan it. You also need to plan the preparation.
Sharpening and Honing Day
One of my favorite things to do is to plan a sharpening and honing day each month or every two depending on the time of year.
Blades and cutting tools are some of the most important things you will put into your pack. You should not be traveling with firewood from other areas so that means you need to process wood if you are going to have fire where you are headed.
The only way to assure you will have fire is to bring tools that can take down standing dead wood and have saws that can break that down into smaller logs. These can be split by batoning or by carrying a short handled axe.
Sharpening day is how you can pay your dues to the blade gods. This will assure you have a time that you can spread out all your blades, knives, kitchen knives etc and get them sharpened up for your next adventure.
The only way to be successful in your outdoor adventures is to assure you set aside the time to have them and the time to prepare for them.
