Growing potatoes in a box may seem weird and a lot of effort but actually can double and even quadruple your potato yield! Growing potatoes in a box is just like planting in a raised bed.
This is one of my favorite DIY potato box videos. It only requires 4 square feet and has a built-in watering system!
The box is designed so additional slats can be screwed to the sides as the plants grow and soil is added.
For a slightly more traditional route, try Fine Gardening’s potato growing box plans. You can’t go wrong with either option!
In theory, a bottom slat can be temporarily removed to facilitate the harvest of new potatoes. For the final harvest, tip the box and dump out its contents.
