Have you ever heard the expression, ‘like shooting fish in a barrel?” Well, you can turn your survival protein into that type of a situation. If you spend a little time learning about survival fishing traps and methods you, too, can have protein success that is much more efficient than chasing land animals.

You are going to need a number of different skills and tools to take advantage of the fish you catch or trap.

A Good Filet Knife

There is nothing better than a good fish filet knife. These are small, flexible knives that are very sharp and bend from side to side. It is not a thick blade that can be used as a survival knife. This is particular to filleting and getting the blade between the thin skin and the meat.

This knife is also good for the removal of the head and tail if you so desire.

A Hook for the Guts

When you remove the guts don’t make the mistake of throwing out the guts. You need to save those guts because they are tremendous bait. Yes! You can smoke and dry the innards or just hook them as is.

A Few Good Stakes

Once you have a dressed fish you only need a few good sticks or stakes that can rest the fish over your fire. You will be able to cook these fish over an open flame or hot coals in minutes. you can buy these stakes or you can seek out small branches and carve them up with a good knife. Don’t use your filet knife for this!
