We all know the largest risk comes from the EMP. This could render all modern cars inoperable. That is a big thing! Suddenly that bugout location might get a whole lot further away! In that case we need to be prepared to do something else.

There are some interesting options out there. Though they wont move like cars they could be an option

Bikes

The most simple investment to make is in a set of bikes. Bikes can be pretty well outfitted for things like the bugout. While you wont be able to do the things you can in a car you can certainly get to a safe place quickly and avoid traffic while you do it.

Bikes also become your best option for traveling with small kids because of the attachments that can be provided. While it might seem silly a bike can be a great bugout vehicle.

Motorized Scooters

Electric motorized scooters are other options for travel. These are not long distance, high speed options but they can get you out of harms way in a hurry. Again, if your only other option is on foot, this could be a much better answer for you.

A motorized scooter could also be insulated from the powerful affects of an EMP. A small faraday style garage could be built to house your scooters.

Transportation after a collapse will change everything. It will literally change the speed of life. If you are able to stay ahead of the curve in terms of speed, it could make all the difference.
