What is the point of bushcraft skills? Is it all about running a stick over a wood plane to make a fire? There has got to be more to it than that. Until you get out into the woods you can never really understand bush skills.

We have gathered up three very interesting techniques for practicing and using those bush skills

The 15 Minute Mug

Wouldn’t it be handy to know how to make a mug out of just wood and paracord? One day, you might need to be able to do just that.

Imagine you’re in an SHTF or survival situation and you have next to nothing; no cooking or eating utensils or even anything to drink out of. You’ll have to improvise for sure, and learning a few survival tricks beforehand can literally be a lifesaver.

Making your first fire is exciting but what happens when you have to repeat that on a nightly basis? What if you have to make fire several times a day for weeks?

Having a next fire mentality is such a big deal. You need to be prepared to make a fire in a hurry and have a fire at all costs!

By taking a cotton-based cloth and cooking it in a closed container, over a fire, will create char cloth. This cloth will then be able to catch and hold even the smallest spark. Now you have the ability to start a fire.

Deadfall Trigger

Trapping is a quiet means of providing food for yourself in a survival situation. You need to know how to catch food. Even a squirrel can make a huge difference in your diet if you are just struggling to find calories. Carving a deadfall trigger is going to take some practice so this is a great skill to apply on your next dirt session.

Bonus: How to Make Pemmican, the Original Survival Food

Invented by the natives of North America pemmican was used by Indian scouts as well as early western explorers.

Native Americans spent a great deal of time on the go and depended on having portable, high-energy, highly nutritious, and filling foods that would last for long periods of time without refrigeration.

Pemmican is a portable, long-lasting, high-energy food. It's made of lean, dried meat that's crushed into powder and mixed with hot, rendered fat. This makes it one of the ultimate foods to have stockpiled for when SHTF or disaster strikes.
