What is the point of bushcraft skills? Is it all about running a stick over a wood plane to make a fire? There has got to be more to it than that. Until you get out into the woods you can never really understand bush skills.

By taking a cotton-based cloth and cooking it in a closed container, over a fire, will create char cloth. This cloth will then be able to catch and hold even the smallest spark. Now you have the ability to start a fire.
Trapping is a quiet means of providing food for yourself in a survival situation. You need to know how to catch food. Even a squirrel can make a huge difference in your diet if you are just struggling to find calories. Carving a deadfall trigger is going to take some practice so this is a great skill to apply on your next dirt session.

People really should avert their gaze from the modern survival thinking for just a bit and also look at how folks 150 years ago did it.
