Wildfires are highly destructive and unforgiving forces of nature.
The last wildfire in California was the size of Delaware. The whole state! It has already cost about 6.9 billion dollars in damage to the infrastructure. What could come from another fire this year?
These are questions all people are asking themselves. They are also wondering what happens if a fire like this gets in my path? How will I survive such a situation?
You need to know how to survive a wildfire just like the one in California.
Now, getting out of the way of fire may sound interesting. It may sound almost silly. Run the opposite way of the fire. Well, fire does some pretty terrifying things. It can shoehorn and trap you inside of itself.
It can encircle you miles away and you will not even know you are at the center of the inferno. Don’t be a victim.
You need a real evacuation plan. You need your evacuation documentation ready to go. During the wildfires in California, people would have only minutes to get away from their home safely before it was engulfed by flames coming over the hills.
You need to shore up a place to stay and you need to have all of your personal effects in one place, ready to go. Do not leave precious things like documentation, cash, and a firearm behind. Who knows what you might come home to!
It’s also a good idea to put your most sensitive documents into a fireproof lockbox to protect them from fire.
As well as having a plan you should have a bag or bags that will sustain your family for the 72 hours or more than you will be away from home or in a place that you do not call home.
Invest in a quality bag and be sure you have all of the things you need inside of it. Don’t forget about things like shoes, clothes and personal hygiene items.
