Trees are the source of materials, foods, and medicines If you can identify these trees you will have amenities that the average person will not in a survival situation.  The woods become a lot less intimidating when you understand some of the plants and trees around you.

There are so many useful trees in the wilderness and should not only know how to identify them but also how to use them.

Pine

The needles are full of Vitamin C and they make great tea. The sap is full of resin and will start fires and keep them burning. From these pines, you also harvest fatwood which is another great firestarter.

White Willow

Not many trees have the ability to actually help with fever and pain relief. However, the white willow bark contains salicin which is an active ingredient in over the counter pain killers. You can make a white willow bark tea and it will fight your fever and your aches and pains

Black Walnut

The black walnut comes to mind for a number of reasons. The best of which is the food source. However, that is hardly the full scope of black walnut. The wood is a great building material. The husks contain something called juglone which can be simmered in water to create an anti-fungal.

This juglone brew also can be used to stun fish and paralyze them momentarily. This is a great way to do some survival fishing!

There are many more species of helpful trees. Some are great for food and others are great for medicine. The very best trees straddle both worlds. If you become adept at identifying and utilizing these trees it will make a world of difference.
