One of the most critical parts of survival is the warmth, protection and cooking ability of fire. There is no other part of your survival arsenal that will provide you with as much as fire will.
It can protect you from the cold, protect you from wild animals, a fire will lift your spirits, boil your water and will even help signal for your rescue.
So, what’s more important than fire?
How you start the fire. Fire is a great concept but if you don’t have what you need to create it than its merely a concept. Let’s look at some great fire starters that quickly turn that idea into reality.
Vaseline and Cotton Balls
This is a powerful combo and you can easily make your own vaseline and cotton balls. They are coated with vaseline is petroleum jelly and it will get those cotton balls to burn for a while. Much longer than just using the cotton ball on its on.
Shredded Paper and Wax Cups
This one is not as popular but very effective! Those small wax cups that hold ketchup are a great base. You add shredded paper to melted wax and stuff the wax cups with this mix. These little pyro cups will burn for 15 minutes or more!
Definitely give them a try.
Did you know that your dryer makes tinder every time you do the laundry? When you pull out that lint box and empty the contents you are handling one of the best firestarters there is! It’s also completely free!
Dryer lint ignites with the flick of a Ferro rod. Because of this, its one of the best ways to teach kids how to start a fire. They can learn to use a Ferro rod effectively and see the spark create fire. All this with the free stuff you usually throw away!
