The subject of water is always one that stirs the prepper. This is due to the fact that we cannot survive without it.
A sound water plan should have multiple methods of procuring your water. You should never rely on one method only.
Instead, you simply cannot afford for your water filter to break and that be your only option for survival.
Now is the time for evaluation. It’s important that we take note and that we take the time to use this period as an evaluation. If the SHTF scenario hits there will no longer be time to evaluate.
How Much Stored Water?
What kind of stored water do you have on hand? Do you have enough water to keep your family clean and hydrated for a week? This would be about three gallons per person per day. The old standard of 1 gallon per person per day doesn’t take into account cooking and cleaning.
Can You Catch Water?
Do you have any kind of water catchment system? Are you catching rainwater in a bucket, barrel or cistern? With just 4 55 gallon barrels you can have a huge impact on your water security.
What is Your Tap Water Source?
Where does your water come from currently? Do you know? Its good to understand that source.
How to Filter and Sanitize?
What are the tools that you are going to use to filter and santize water that you store, catch or get from another place. If you dont have bleach and a good filter, you should act on that.
Any Other Source?
Is there another source of water out there, nearby? If your tap runs dry are you going to be able to gather more water from somewhere nearby? This is a very important question that can be answered using a map.
Where is your nearest body of water?
