For a while I was obsessed with the significance of amending soil. I use to look at it as thought it were a one time operation. I thought that merely adding sand to clay soil would be enough to create an environment that would support plants. It will. But you will have tiny little plants that are stunted from a lack of nutrients. This can be very disheartening year after year. Now I have since grown to appreciate and understand the importance of creating healthy soil year after year.
This article taps a whole new train of thought and that is planting a cover crop in the fall. There are many different types of cover crops to plant in the fall and I have to say I am intrigued by a few different ones. I am not a fan of letting beds get covered and become useless. Using a cover crop could be the next step even in your home garden.
